Justice in the DRC: brutality and lawlessness continue to reign

Aggression, brutality and lawlessness continue to dominate justice in the DRC. Judge Ndonda, former deputy public prosecutor, paid the price. Violently attacked in the offices of the company IREC by agents of the Gombe prosecutor’s office, he found himself beaten up and humiliated in the middle of the street. The reasons ? The agents of the Gombe prosecution sought to meet the CEO of the company IREC within the framework of an ongoing file and, faced with his absence due to a health problem, they decided to take him away by force, without a warrant. search, with the help of ten other officers from the same jurisdiction.

Judge Ndonda tried to calmly explain the situation to them, but the agents were aggressive with him, even going so far as to brutalize him in public, where members of civil society watched helplessly. Judge Ndonda, unarmed, tried to make the agents of the Gombe prosecutor’s office understand that their intervention was illegal, but he was attacked in return, beaten up and dragged by force to the office of the general prosecutor of Gombe where they were all auditioned before being released.

This case once again reflects the dismal state of justice in the DRC and the lack of respect for the law. If even magistrates cannot be protected, how can ordinary citizens trust a judicial system that does nothing to protect them? The government must take note of this case and take urgent measures to reform the judicial system, put an end to the abuse of power and guarantee effective protection to citizens and magistrates.
