Title: The Minister of Gender on a humanitarian mission for displaced women and children in the DRC
Introduction :
Since August 2, the Minister of Gender, Family and Children (GFAE) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mireille Masangu Bibi Muloko, has undertaken a humanitarian mission in the eastern part of the country, more specifically in the northern provinces and South Kivu. Accompanied by the Director of Cabinet and the Secretary General for Gender, the Minister seeks to assess the living conditions of children and women displaced from Goma, as well as affected women from Kalehe.
An inventory to find solutions:
The objective of this mission is to carry out an inventory of the humanitarian conditions of women and children who are victims of human rights violations. Minister Mireille Masangu thus wishes to collect concrete data in order to be able to examine the problems and envisage solutions at the national level.
Meetings and support for displaced women:
During her visit, the Minister met with the Governor of North Kivu, Constat Ndima, to discuss the situation of women and children who are victims of human rights violations. She also handed over a large batch of food to women displaced by war living in Rusayo camp, located in Nyiragongo territory. Sharing their afflictions, the Minister promised to return to visit them.
Exchanges with local actors:
In her humanitarian mission, Mireille Masangu also granted an audience to the agents and executives of the provincial gender division of North Kivu. She took into account all their concerns and promised favorable responses, particularly with regard to the mechanization of new units as well as the problem of agents wishing to pursue a master’s degree in their respective fields. The Minister thus promised to discuss with her colleague from the Ministry of Higher and University Education (ESU).
Support for the victims of Kalehe:
In the continuity of her mission, the Minister also went to Bukavu, the capital of the province of South Kivu, to assess the humanitarian conditions of the victims of Kalehe. She met the two provincial ministers as well as the Provincial Gender Representative. A humanitarian response plan to the Kalehe floods was given to him to take into account the specific needs of this affected population.
