“Route 5 in the DRC: A fatal accident plunges the population of Pweto into desolation, the companies present in question”

The bad news related to the state of road number 5 continues to accumulate in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This Friday, June 2, 2023, a tragedy took place near the village Malambwe, 72 km from Pweto. A Hiace vehicle had a fatal accident and the report shows three dead and several injured, including the prefect of ITM Kilwa, Isidore.

This part of the country is one of the most lacking in infrastructure and yet two large companies are present there: AMC (Anvil Mining Congo) and Mushima. These two companies, operational 24 hours a day, have not made the slightest effort to provide the city of Pweto with basic infrastructure, which has plunged the population into utter despair.

Indeed, the population of the region lives in great precariousness while no one seems to care about their fate. The images of road number 5 Pweto-Kilwa accident testify to the permanent danger faced by users of this road. As long as nothing is done to rehabilitate this road, tragedies will continue to occur.

It should be emphasized that the precarious situation in this region is alarming and requires urgent treatment. Let’s hope that the authorities quickly decide to take concrete measures to provide these localities with basic infrastructure and put an end to the suffering of the population.
