Road of death in the province of Haut-Katanga: the authorities called on to act quickly to avoid new disasters.

The situation of road number 5 in Pweto, in the province of Haut-Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is of the most worrying. The rehabilitation of this road had however been promised by Governor Jacques Kyabula Katwe, but it was not carried out in time, which caused a new fatal accident on June 2, 2023.

Near the village of Malambwe, a Hiace brand vehicle collided, killing three people and injuring several. The prefect of ITM Kilwa is one of the injured, his state of health being critical, he has just been transferred to Lubumbashi to receive appropriate care.

This road connects the city of Kilwa to the territory of Pweto and is used by the inhabitants of the region, as well as the workers of the AMC (Anvil Mining Congo) and Mushima companies, operating 24 hours a day, to transport products and goods. Unfortunately, the road is in poor condition and many victims have already come out. The inhabitants of this part of the country are disadvantaged because they live in deplorable conditions while no one cares to help them.

The infrastructure development policy in this region seems to be failing and the population is now hopeless in the face of a situation that is only deteriorating. This situation once again exposes the incompetence of the political leaders of the province of Haut-Katanga, but also of the entire DRC which continues to suffer from a lack of basic infrastructure.

The government must take urgent measures to resolve this crisis in order to improve the living conditions of the population. The survival of an entire people and the economic development of the region are at stake.
