The “Proudly Ndundu” festival is making a comeback in Kinshasa after a two-year absence. The sixth edition will be held from June 12 to 13, 2021 with the theme “SUCH AS YOU ARE”. This cultural and artistic event is organized by the ASBL “Plus de couleurs” which promotes the acceptance of skin diversity by bringing together the color differences of a community in perfect harmony.
Known for its commitment to people with albinism, this cultural event aims to encourage albinos to assume their identity as it is. Most albinos have long been stigmatized in Congolese society, but Proudly Ndundu is helping to change that by encouraging self-acceptance and creating a space to celebrate the beauty of diversity.
This year, the sixth edition of “Proudly Ndundu” presents a particularity with the creation of three prizes. The first, the Mwimba Texas Prize, will be awarded to an albino who has succeeded in emerging into society thanks to his efforts. The Kabasele prize will reward a non-albino person who has supported the albino community. Finally, the Belgian Ilunga Police prize will be offered to albinos who have decided to engage in the fight for the recognition of their rights.
Apart from these awards, the 2021 edition of “Proudly Ndundu” will also offer an assortment of performances, art exhibitions and activities to celebrate the diversity of Kinshasa’s albino community.
Overall, “Proudly Ndundu” is a major contribution to raising awareness among the Congolese population on the importance of tolerance, diversity and valuing each individual, regardless of skin color. This cultural event is intended to help all albinos in the DRC regain their pride and self-confidence as human beings, whoever they are
