Prime Minister Sama Lukonde Kyenge represents the DRC at the inauguration of President Erdogan in Turkey: strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

News in the DRC: Prime Minister Sama Lukonde Kyenge represents President Tshisekedi at the inauguration of President Erdogan in Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in for his third term after winning re-election with 52% of the vote. On this occasion, several heads of state, government and foreign ministers attended the investiture and swearing-in ceremony in Ankara, Turkey. Among them was the Congolese Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, present as a representative of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi.

Turkey is a privileged partner country of the DRC, which participates in the realization of various investment projects, such as the construction of the financial center of Kinshasa and soon the modernization of the airport of N’djili. The participation of the Congolese Prime Minister in this investiture therefore strengthens bilateral relations between the two countries.

It is important to underline that the international relations of the DRC are not limited to Turkey. The DRC remains committed to carrying out various projects with a view to strengthening its relations with other countries. It is thus possible to cite the Games of La Francophonie which will take place in Kinshasa, or the cooperation between the DRC and the BRICS which reaffirmed their call for the reform of the UN during their last summit in South Africa.

The Congolese government is also facing many challenges on the national territory, such as the humanitarian crisis in Ituri or the M23 rebellion, which demonstrate the extent of the challenges that the DRC must face. The situation also seems tense politically, with tensions between the opposition and the government, demonstrations that are sometimes violently repressed, and the risk of internet shutdowns during the election period.

In this complex context, the DRC will nevertheless have to find the right balance between its international relations and its internal challenges to continue to move forward towards a prosperous future.
