Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry summons MP Daniel Safu Butshiemuni for his remarks inciting tribal hatred.

The Special and Temporary Commission, responsible for hearing national deputy Daniel Safu Butshiemuni for his recidivist behavior and for remarks inciting tribal hatred, published an official communiqué announcing that the elected representative of the people was invited to participate in its work on June 5, 2023. Composed of 20 members appointed by the President of the National Assembly, this commission is assisted by cabinets and the administration of the Lower House of Parliament.

MP Daniel Safu and his colleague Mike Mukebayi have been accused of vilifying the Congolese of the “Luba” tribe. Their behavior was judged as “offending, unworthy which does not only honor our chamber, but also the Republic, whether inside or outside the country”, by MP David Mukeba. The latter tabled an information motion in plenary to publicly denounce the insults uttered against this community.

Deputy Daniel Safu is also accused of having made remarks inciting tribal hatred, and was publicly received by the Head of State to apologize. However, his recidivist behavior has led to the establishment of this ad hoc committee which must hear him before potentially pronouncing sanctions against him.

These events testify to the need to put in place substantive work in the DRC to fight against tribal hatred and the indecent behavior of certain elected officials. Awareness is necessary to permanently clean up the image of the lower house of the Congolese parliament and allow this country to move forward on the path of democracy and peace.
