Security is a concern in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In this regard, the 10th ICGLR conference, held in Luanda, Angola, addressed the security situation in eastern DRC and the Republic of Sudan. This initiative was welcomed by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, during his speech.
The discussions were conducted behind closed doors by the Heads of State and their respective representatives, in particular President Félix Tshisekedi, accompanied by Ministers Jean-Pierre Bemba, in charge of Defense, and Mbusa Nyamuisi of Regional Integration.
The objective of this meeting is to take stock of the Luanda and Nairobi processes concerning the roadmap relating to insecurity in eastern DRC. In addition, the Angolan President announced the holding of a quadripartite meeting between the East African Community (EAC), the ICGLR and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), under the coordination of the african union
President Félix Tshisekedi expressed concern about the deterioration of the situation in Khartoum in Sudan.
Following these important discussions, a final statement will be issued. Security being at the center of citizens’ concerns, it is important that discussions continue to improve the situation in these countries. Moreover, thanks to the commitment of the Heads of State present, we can hope that measures will be taken to strengthen security in these regions.
