The rehabilitation of the Kimwenza roadway: progress for Kalamu motorists, but challenges remain.

The rehabilitation of the Kimwenza road is good news for motorists in the municipality of Kalamu. However, some black spots remain to be settled, such as the Eckankar roundabout or the intersections of Kasa-Vubu and Mpozo avenues, where holes have been reported and cause traffic jams at rush hour.

The inhabitants of the commune call on the local authorities to take charge of the repairs, because it is part of their duties towards the citizens. In the Matonge district, a hole was apparently created a year ago, without any measures being taken to fill it.

Pavement rehabilitation works are also underway at Oshwe and Popokabaka avenues, with technical innovations such as the use of rigid concrete pavement for marshy areas and flexible asphalt pavement for others.

However, the renovation works alone are not enough to solve the traffic problems in Kinshasa. It is necessary that the local authorities show a great implication on this question, by ensuring a constant surveillance of the roads and by undertaking regular maintenance and repair works.
