“The incendiary remarks of MP Nsafu Butshiemuni Daniel: the special commission of the National Assembly awaits him for explanation”

Political news in the Democratic Republic of Congo is marked by the forthcoming hearing of national deputy Nsafu Butshiemuni Daniel. Indeed, he is expected before a special commission set up to add it, following his remarks made during a television program after the opposition march. His presence is imperative, according to a press release made public by the communication unit of the National Assembly, in view of the importance of the matters.

The deputies adopted, last Monday, May 29, the establishment of a special and temporary commission to hear the deputy Daniel Nsafu on remarks inciting “tribal hatred”. This adoption is consecutive to the motion raised by the deputy Albert David Mukeba and supported by almost all the deputies present in the room.

The remarks in question were made on May 20, during a television program in Kinshasa, where national deputy Nsafu Butshiemuni Daniel and provincial deputy Mike Mukebayi were invited to “explain what happened” during the march of a fringe of the Congolese political opposition headed by Moïse Katumbi, Delly Sesanga, Martin Fayulu and Augustin Matata. Both made remarks that some deemed inciting tribal hatred. Mike Mukebayi was arrested the next day and transferred to Makala central prison. The national deputy Daniel Nsafu is, for his part, untraceable until then.

The political situation in the DRC is complex and marked by tensions between the various actors in the country. The citizen movements, in particular, denounce the forcing and call for the suspension of the bill on the distribution of seats. The government is accused of not ensuring security in the country and the opposition is sounding the alarm.

In this context, economic stability is also undermined. If the Congolese franc stabilizes on the official foreign exchange market, the informal market remains affected. The Young Congolese Entrepreneurs Fair highlights a unique opportunity for the development of entrepreneurship in the country.

However, security is a major concern for the inhabitants of certain regions, notably in Beni where terrorist attacks are on the rise. The governor of Ituri sends a strong message to the armed groups: national and international justice awaits them.

Faced with these challenges, reflection on the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo is more topical than ever. Citizen movements want a transparent and fair electoral process to allow the Congolese population to express their choice at the ballot box
