“Recidivist inappropriate behavior: Deputy Daniel Safu summoned for remarks inciting tribal hatred”

The Special and Temporary Commission responsible for hearing National Deputy Daniel Safu Butshiemuni for his recidivist behavior met on Monday, June 5, 2023 in the Banquet Hall of the People’s Palace. This summons comes following remarks inciting tribal hatred that the deputy would have made with his colleague Mike Mukebayi during a television program where they would have insulted the Congolese of the “Luba” tribe.

Deputy Daniel Safu had already been summoned by a commission for these same remarks considered as offensive for part of Congolese society. Before this commission, he had already apologized for having made these remarks but it seems that he has not changed his odious behavior.
The national deputy David Mukeba then called for the establishment of an ad hoc commission to sanction the recidivist behavior of Daniel Safu, a behavior which “desacralizes the function of elected representative of the people and undermines the honorability of the chamber bass of parliament.

The Special and Temporary Commission is therefore composed of 20 members appointed by the President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, on the proposal of the parliamentary groups and non-attached members. It is assisted by cabinets and the administration of the Lower House of Parliament.

It is important to note that the national deputy Daniel Safu was already known for his inappropriate behavior which does not honor the function of elected representative of the people. He had already threatened the National Assembly by saying that if it were to pass, the Congolese law would bring down power. He had also made threats against the Congolese during an opposition march stating that there would be large numbers of deaths.

The behavior of this recidivist deputy is unworthy and tarnishes the image of national representation. It is therefore urgent that the Special and Temporary Commission take the necessary measures to ensure that such inappropriate behavior is no longer tolerated in the national representation. This will restore the National Assembly’s tarnished image and make elected officials more accountable to the Congolese people.
