Model management of drinking water supply in Tenke: an example to follow

Title: Exemplary management of drinking water supply in Tenke

Introduction :
In the Tenke region, access to drinking water used to be a major challenge. However, since 2017, thanks to the initiative of the Water Management Cooperative of Tenke (C.G.E.T.), the population has benefited from a drinking water supply system. In this article, we will look at the effective management of the C.G.E.T. and its ongoing projects to improve the life of the community.

The Tenke Water Management Cooperative (C.G.E.T.):
Since its creation in 2016, the C.G.E.T. was able to set up an effective water management committee, with a rotation every three years. Today, under the presidency of Justin Ilunga, the cooperative employs a total of ninety-four agents. Thanks to rigorous management, the C.G.E.T. managed to save 41 thousand dollars from the sale of water and the billing of public showers and toilets built by the association.

Current projects :
With its savings, the C.G.E.T. has several projects in sight to improve the lives of the people of Tenke. First of all, the association wants to start packaging water in order to facilitate access to bottled water on site, thus avoiding the inhabitants having to go to Likasi to obtain it. In addition, the cooperative plans to build a restaurant in Tenke, with already 15 thousand bricks ready for the project.

Technical support from TFM:
In addition to the C.G.E.T., two other water management structures benefit from the technical support of TFM, in particular the Committee for the Management of Water Wells in the Concession (COGEPCO) and the municipality of Fungurume. Thanks to this support, the structures benefit from the maintenance of equipment, the repair of pumps and the regular supply of fuel to ensure a continuous supply of drinking water.

Conclusion :
The exemplary management of the Tenke Water Management Cooperative and its ongoing projects show the positive impact that good drinking water management can have on a community. Thanks to their effort and the support of TFM, the inhabitants of Tenke now have easy access to drinking water and can look forward to a better future
