The creation of new public establishments in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was recently announced by President Félix Tshisekedi, with the aim of addressing the issue of the housing deficit in the country. The Congolese Real Estate Promotion Agency (ACOPRIM), the National Housing Fund (FONHAB) as well as the Single Window for the Issuance of Building Permits (GUPEC) have thus been set up.
In addition to solving the housing problem in the DRC, these new agencies also aim to regulate construction in inappropriate places, which has caused flooding during the rainy season. The creation of these agencies demonstrates the Congolese government’s commitment to meeting the population’s growing housing needs.
In addition, several citizen movements have recently denounced a forcing in the electoral process in the DRC and called for the suspension of the bill on the distribution of seats. The CENI’s efforts to organize the elections were praised by Western embassies, despite lingering concerns.
The security situation remains worrying in the country, with a new terrorist attack in Beni which caused deaths and injuries. The governor of Ituri called on the armed groups to renounce violence and to appear before national and international justice.
Despite these persistent challenges, the Young Congolese Entrepreneurs Fair offers a unique opportunity for the development of entrepreneurship in the DRC. The Congolese franc stabilizes on the official foreign exchange market, but remains affected on the informal market
