“The IX Games of La Francophonie under the supervision of the CNDH for the respect of human rights”

The 9th Francophonie Games, which are currently taking place, are also an opportunity for the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) to put in place measures to guarantee respect for fundamental rights throughout the event. Under the direction of the vice-president of the institution, Me Joëlle Mbamba, the CNDH deployed stands in several sites of the games, with the aim of monitoring and evaluating the conditions of respect for human rights.

As part of this monitoring, Me Joëlle Mbamba went to the Martyrs de la Pentecost stadium, one of the main sites of the competition, to personally supervise the CNDH teams. She underlined the importance of this surveillance to verify the reception conditions, the infrastructures, and to ensure that the games take place in the respect of human rights.

The CNDH was satisfied with the measures taken so far to ensure respect for human rights. Me Joëlle Mbamba notably noted the presence of ramps to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, thus demonstrating the attention paid to inclusion and non-discrimination.

However, the CNDH also issued a recommendation to the organizers of the games, reminding them of the importance of not discriminating against participants based on their social status or physical condition.

The 9th Francophonie Games, which began on July 28 and continue until August 6, are an opportunity to promote the values of inclusion and respect that characterize this major event of the international Francophonie.

The vigilance of the CNDH in terms of respect for human rights thus contributes to reinforcing the importance of these values and to guaranteeing that the games take place in a fair and equitable environment for all participants
