The Games of La Francophonie, a sporting and cultural event of international stature, have officially started in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Although the opening ceremony is only scheduled for this Friday evening at the Stade des Martyrs, the competitions have already started on all the chosen sites.
Football opened the ball, with the meeting between the DRC and Benin in the category of under 20 years. Unfortunately, the Leopards U20 could not hold their rank and were beaten 2-0 by a Beninese team in great shape. On the lawn of Stade Raphaël, completely renovated for the occasion, the local players failed to react to the hard-hitting attacks of the Cheetahs of Benin.
This defeat represents a blow for the DRC which thus loses important points in the competition. The team will have to pull themselves together on Sunday July 30, during their next match against Mali.
The participation of French-speaking countries in these Games of La Francophonie is a privileged moment to highlight the talents and athletes of the Francophonie. This competition also highlights the richness and diversity of French-speaking cultures through the organization of cultural and artistic events.
The public impatiently awaits the opening ceremony which promises to be spectacular, thus marking the official start of this edition of the Games of La Francophonie. The days to come will therefore be filled with emotions, sporting performances and cultural discoveries, thus offering a great showcase for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Francophonie as a whole
