Notable absence in Kinshasa: The Secretary General of the OIF, Louise Mushikiwabo, will not be present at the Games of La Francophonie

The Games of La Francophonie, an event awaited by many French-speaking countries, are taking place this year in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). However, a notable absence should be noted: that of the Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo.

Indeed, Louise Mushikiwabo, originally from Rwanda, will not be present in Kinshasa for the Francophone Games. This decision is mainly due to the strained relations between the DRC and Rwanda. Kinshasa indeed accuses Kigali of supporting the M23 rebellion, which has occupied part of the east of the country since last year.

Initially, the organizers of the Games had announced the presence of Louise Mushikiwabo during the opening ceremony. However, the general secretary of the OIF decided not to go to Kinshasa, because she never received a formal invitation from the Congolese authorities. This confusion led Louise Mushikiwabo to reconsider her trip and to be represented by the administrator of the OIF, Caroline St-Hilaire.

Despite this absence, the Games of La Francophonie are taking place as planned, with the participation of many French-speaking countries. This event, eagerly awaited by French-speaking youth, is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity and richness of the French language through sport and culture.

It is important to emphasize that the Games of La Francophonie are an opportunity to strengthen ties between French-speaking countries and to promote the values of La Francophonie. Despite political tensions and differences between certain countries, this event offers a platform for exchange and dialogue, where the French language is the link.

In conclusion, although the Secretary General of the OIF is not present in Kinshasa for the Games of La Francophonie, the event is taking place as planned, bringing together French-speaking countries around sport and culture. Hopefully this event will help strengthen ties between French-speaking countries and promote the French language around the world
