Article: Violent fighting between joint FARDC-UPDF forces and ADF rebels in Kalyanzuki, Beni

In the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, violent clashes broke out between joint FARDC-UPDF forces and ADF rebels in Kalyanzuki, a village in the Mwalika Valley. The fighting took place on Monday, July 31, but the precise toll is not yet available, according to information from Radio Okapi.

These clashes occur following the announcement by the spokesperson for the joint FARDC-UPDF operations, Lieutenant-Colonel Mak Hazukay, concerning the neutralization of two ADF rebel leaders in the area. According to Mak Hazukay, these rebel leaders were killed during a mixed patrol near the Talia River. In addition, six weapons of war were recovered during this operation.

It is important to note that this region has been heavily affected by violence caused by rebel groups for many years. Frequent clashes between security forces and rebels make the situation extremely volatile and dangerous for civilians who have to live in constant fear of attacks.

The Congolese government, in collaboration with the Ugandan army, is working to end this rebel threat and restore peace and security in the North Kivu region. However, despite the efforts made, much remains to be done to completely eradicate armed groups and ensure long-term stability.

The situation in the DRC also raises concerns at the international level, as the conflicts in the region have repercussions on regional stability. It is essential that the international community support the efforts of the Congolese government to end the violence and help rebuild the communities affected by the conflict.

In conclusion, the fighting between joint FARDC-UPDF forces and ADF rebels in Kalyanzuki is a poignant reminder of the ongoing violence in the North Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is more urgent than ever to find a lasting solution to this conflict in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of local communities
