“Solar energy illuminates fifteen cities of Maïndombe: a big step towards electrification in the Democratic Republic of Congo”

Title: Fifteen towns in the province of Maïndombe will soon be electrified thanks to solar energy

Introduction :
In a big step towards the electrification of fifteen cities in the province of Maïndombe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ARE) recently issued two notices of compliance for electrification projects. These projects, carried out in partnership with the Electricity Company of Lake Maïndombe (ELECTRILAC SAS) and Enesys Deutshland, will make it possible to supply electricity to the population thanks to photovoltaic stations powered by solar energy.

A hope for the provinces of the central basin:
The province of Maïndombe is one of the six provinces of the central basin of the Congo Basin which have not had access to electricity due to the lack of possibility of building electric dams. However, with the development of renewable energies, in particular solar energy, a new opportunity is offered to these regions. The electrification project of these fifteen cities of Maïndombe, in partnership with German partners, aims to fill this electricity deficit.

Project details:
The hybrid photovoltaic solar power plants built by ELECTRILAC SAS will have a production capacity of 5 MW, capable of supplying electricity to nearly 14,000 households, or more than 100,000 people. These plants will be equipped with more than 14,000 solar panels with a lithium ion battery storage system. The equipment needed to set up these photovoltaic stations is expected to arrive by November, with commissioning expected by June 2024.

A step towards sustainable development:
This electrification project for the cities of Maïndombe is not only a means of providing electricity to a population that has been deprived of it for a long time, but also a step towards sustainable development. By using solar energy, a renewable and clean source of energy, these cities will be able to benefit from a supply of electricity while reducing their impact on the environment.

Conclusion :
The electrification of the fifteen cities of the province of Maïndombe is an important step towards improving the living conditions of the population and the development of the region. Thanks to solar energy, these cities will finally have access to electricity, thus allowing the development of various sectors such as education, health and the economy. This project is also proof of the importance of renewable energies in the energy transition and the fight against climate change
