Title: Kinshasa hosts the IX Games of La Francophonie in a tense context between the DRC and Rwanda
Introduction :
The IX Games of La Francophonie open today in Kinshasa, marking a major event in the sports and cultural field. However, these games are marred by ongoing political tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. Indeed, the Congolese government refused to invite the secretary general of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, as well as the Rwandan athletes and artists, because of the security crisis raging between the two countries. Despite these tensions, the infrastructures of the games are ready and the organizers hope that this event will be able to bring together the French-speaking countries in a spirit of friendly competition.
Development :
Tensions between the DRC and Rwanda are fueled by persistent security disputes. This is why the Congolese government has taken the decision not to invite the OIF Secretary General, Louise Mushikiwabo, as well as other member states of the organization. This decision was motivated by the desire to preserve the security and stability of the Games of La Francophonie.
Moreover, Rwanda itself decided not to send its athletes and artists to these games. This decision reflects the existing tension between the two countries and their desire not to get involved in a competition placed under the sign of the Francophonie.
Despite these tensions, the Congolese authorities have succeeded in finalizing the infrastructure necessary for the holding of the games. The sports sites as well as the games village installed at the University of Kinshasa are ready to welcome athletes and artists from different French-speaking countries.
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during a visit to the construction sites, was satisfied with the work accomplished and expressed his confidence in the success of these Games of La Francophonie.
Conclusion :
Despite the political tensions between the DRC and Rwanda, the 9th Games of La Francophonie begin today in Kinshasa. The infrastructures are ready to welcome athletes and artists from different French-speaking countries, in a spirit of friendly competition and cultural sharing. We hope that these games will be able to showcase French-speaking talents and contribute to strengthening ties between the participating countries, despite political differences
