The IX Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa are preparing to welcome participants from July 28 to August 6. However, one major absence should be noted: that of the Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo. Indeed, the Congolese government has not officially invited the Rwandan representative, due to the security crisis between the two countries.
This political decision also led to the choice of the Rwandan government not to send its athletes and musical artists to participate in the event. Despite these absences, the sports facilities and the games village, installed at the University of Kinshasa, are ready to welcome the competitors.
The President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, visited the construction sites to ensure the progress of the works and said he was satisfied with their progress. The holding of these games represents a major challenge for the DRC, which has had to face postponements due to the pandemic and infrastructure problems.
This event, which celebrates sport, culture and friendship between French-speaking countries, attracts international attention. Despite political differences, the Games of La Francophonie remain an opportunity for gathering and exchanges between nations. Let’s hope that this edition in Kinshasa will take place in a spirit of brotherhood and fair play
