The controversial rehabilitation of Godé Mpoy by the Kinshasa/Gombe Court of Appeal and his dubious request for documents arouse the skepticism of elected officials in Kinshasa

Rehabilitation of Godé Mpoy by the Court of Appeal of Kinshasa/Gombe and request for documents from Francis Tshibalabala, interim president of the provincial assembly of Kinshasa

In a new development in the Godé Mpoy case, the Kinshasa/Gombe Court of Appeal recently rehabilitated the former president of the Kinshasa provincial assembly, thus annulling his dismissal. A decision that raises many questions and criticisms from elected officials in Kinshasa.

Yet despite this rehabilitation, Godé Mpoy was quick to act controversially. Indeed, he sent a request to Francis Tshibalabala, interim president of the Kinshasa provincial assembly, ordering him to send him the APK files. A surprising requirement, given that Godé Mpoy was unable to respond to the invitation of the plenary to present his defenses following the motion for forfeiture against him.

In addition, Godé Mpoy’s request comes when he is supposed to be on intellectual rest for 45 days, as recommended by his attending physician. It is therefore legitimate to question his ability to fully assume his duties under these conditions.

But what is even more intriguing is the fact that Godé Mpoy sent his correspondence to Francis Tshibalabala without appending the judgment of the Court of Appeal which rehabilitated him. Moreover, the APK office has not been officially informed of this rehabilitation. Thus, only Godé Mpoy and his relatives seem to be aware of this decision.

Faced with this situation, Francis Tshibalabala responded to Godé Mpoy by denying the existence of the rehabilitation order and emphasizing the absurdity of his request to send him the APK documents. The interim president also recalls that Godé Mpoy is supposed to be on rest and that he should first obtain permission from his doctor before resuming his activities.

Overall, the rehabilitation of Godé Mpoy by the Kinshasa/Gombe Court of Appeal raises many questions as to his legitimacy and the validity of his request for reinstatement. Kinshasa’s elected officials remain skeptical and are waiting for Godé Mpoy to produce proof of his rehabilitation before returning his post to him
