North Kivu: Attacks by ADF fighters continue, killing nine people in the locality of Museya

North Kivu, eastern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has experienced new deadly attacks perpetrated by suspected ADF fighters. On the night of Thursday June 1, at least nine people were killed with machetes and shots in the locality of Museya, in the Bashu chiefdom. The assailants attacked residents in their homes, but also in their plots, where several people were executed.

In a region already affected by violence, these new attacks have prompted several people to flee to take refuge in the bush. One person was also seriously injured in the attack.

ADF fighters are behind several attacks in the Bashu area, already bereaved by the death of 16 civilians on Saturday May 20. This new incursion has rekindled the fears of the inhabitants, already exasperated by the growing insecurity in the region.

North Kivu is regularly the scene of violence and armed conflicts, involving armed groups and government forces. The region is also affected by a humanitarian crisis, with the presence of thousands of internally displaced persons and refugees in camps. This tense situation highlights the need for greater humanitarian support and increased security in the area.

In this context, several articles published on Fatshimètre’s blog have addressed the different aspects of this crisis. Regional governments, such as the East African Community, have recently taken steps to strengthen security in the region. However, the humanitarian situation remains worrying, and many civil society actors are calling for urgent action to protect vulnerable populations and find lasting solutions to these conflicts.
