“Lack of resources deprives Ituri athletes of their participation in the Francophonie Games: a call for support from the authorities”

The athletes of the province of Ituri regret their missed participation in the IX Games of Francophonie in Kinshasa due to a lack of means, denouncing the lack of support from the authorities. Despite months of intensive training, these talented athletes have not been able to realize their dream of representing their province at this international competition.

In Bunia, for example, 26 young footballers had been selected to be part of the different teams that were to take part in the games. They trained hard in preparation for this major event, but for lack of means, they were forced to stay at home.

The athletes’ coach, Ngesse Bikwe, revealed that all the steps taken with economic operators and provincial authorities have unfortunately not been successful. Athletes found themselves faced with a wall of indifference and lack of commitment on the part of officials.

It is hard to imagine the desperation and frustration felt by these young athletes who have invested so much effort and determination in their preparation. Participating in the Games of Francophonie would have been an opportunity to live a unique sporting experience, to represent their province and to compete against competitors from all over the world.

It is essential that national and provincial authorities become aware of the importance of supporting young sporting talent and providing them with the necessary means to express themselves internationally. Sport plays a crucial role in the personal development of individuals and in promoting the country’s image.

There is also a need for policies and initiatives to promote sport and encourage youth participation. Investments in sports infrastructure and athlete training programs are essential to enable the emergence of new talent and the organization of large-scale sporting events
