International Fair of Kinshasa (Fikin): Rehabilitation work stopped
Differences remain between the Turkish company Milvet and the Congolese party represented by the management committee of the International Fair of Kinshasa (Fikin), causing the stoppage of the rehabilitation works of this tourist structure. According to a source close to Fikin, Milvet, who had been chosen to carry out the services related to the works, does not respect the agreement signed with the Congolese opinion makers.
The Turkish construction company also wanted to have an area of 6 hectares on the Fikin area. The rental of these places is planned for a period of 10 years. But this request was not well received by the managers of the Fair who consider the proposed deadline far too elastic. Despite this, the Turkish construction company Milvet had begun its rehabilitation work, in particular by moving the occupants and drinking establishments, as well as backfilling the land.
The Fikin rehabilitation project includes several components such as the construction of an exhibition center, an amusement park, a shopping center, a conference center, a hotel and a multifunctional arena with 20,000 seats. The new complex would also include an exhibition center of almost 21 thousand square meters.
The amusement park will be erected on an area ranging from 15 to 16% of the total area of Fikin.
Fikin has enormous potential to attract foreign tourists with its state-of-the-art facilities. However, it is regrettable that due to conflicts of interest, the company Milvet was prevented from continuing its rehabilitation activities by the leaders of Fikin. The population is waiting to see how this situation will be managed for the good of all Congolese.
