The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently experiencing a tense situation, marked by social and political movements that impact stability and security in the country. The President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, spoke about the disapproval of opposition national deputies over the law on the distribution of seats. According to him, members of the opposition are free not to participate in the current electoral debate, but the priority is to go to the elections, the registration of voters being completed. The members of the Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC) for their part refused to take part in the examination of the bill on the distribution of seats, deploring the corruption which plagues the electoral process.
This change of mood is not the only one to disturb the country. The DRC is facing increased violence and political tension, and the international community is concerned about the precarious security situation in the country. The International Criminal Court (ICC) is active in the province of Lituri to fight against impunity, while the Front Commun pour le Congo is sounding the alarm on the fragility of security in the country. The situation is so difficult that the east of the country has been sinking into war for many years. Thus, the East African Community organized an extraordinary summit to examine the security situation in eastern DRC.
In addition, economic sectors are also affected by social movements. The transporters’ strike in the DRC is disrupting the transport of goods to the former eastern province, while special economic zones are being set up to pacify the province of Lituri.
However, some positive points should be noted in the DRC, for example the trial of soldiers accused of violence which is an example to follow in the fight against impunity, or the Fondation Le Parrain which organizes inspiring events such as the Salon des jeunes entrepreneurs Congolese to encourage innovative projects.
In short, the DRC is a country plagued by tension and violence, but civil society, NGOs and the international community are mobilized to make their voices heard and provide solutions to the problems encountered.
