Title: Athletes from Ituri deprived of the Francophonie Games for lack of means

Introduction :

The ninth Games of Francophonie taking place in Kinshasa arouse the enthusiasm of athletes from all over the world. Unfortunately, some athletes from Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been sidelined due to lack of resources. About 100 athletes, involved in different disciplines, expressed their disappointment and frustration at the lack of support from national and provincial authorities. Despite their intensive preparation, these talented athletes are thus deprived of the opportunity to shine on the international scene.

The lack of support from the authorities:

In the city of Bunia, for example, 26 talented young athletes were selected to be part of the various football teams that would participate in the Games of Francophonie. For months they trained hard, devoting their time and effort to preparing for this world famous event. Unfortunately, for lack of resources, they were unable to join their partners in Kinshasa. Their trainer, Ngesse Bikwe, regrets that despite their approaches to economic operators and the provincial government, no concrete help has been provided.

Government reaction:

So far, the provincial government has not commented on the issue. It is clear that this situation raises questions about the authorities’ commitment to the development of sport and the promotion of Congolese athletes. The Games of Francophonie offer an international showcase and a unique opportunity to showcase the talent and potential of Congolese athletes. However, without proper support, these talents remain in the shadows and cannot reach their full potential.

Call for better care for athletes:

It is essential that national and provincial authorities become aware of the importance of supporting Congolese athletes, especially during major international events such as the Francophone Games. It is essential to allocate adequate resources to enable athletes to train, compete and represent their country with dignity. Sport is a vector of personal development, social cohesion and international influence for the DRC. It is therefore essential to invest in training, sports infrastructure and support for athletes in order to promote their development and success on the international scene.

Conclusion :

The non-participation of Ituri athletes in the Francophonie Games due to lack of means is indicative of the challenges faced by many Congolese athletes. It is time for the authorities to take concrete measures to support and encourage sporting talent in the DRC. Athletes deserve a fair chance to shine on the international stage and represent their country with pride. By investing in sport, we not only enable athletes to realize their potential, but we also promote the development and growth of an entire nation
