“The new RVA Board of Directors announces a major turning point for the aviation sector in the DRC”

The aviation sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo is experiencing a new development with the inauguration of the new Board of Directors of the Régie des Voies Aériennes (RVA). The handover and takeover ceremony was held recently in Gombe, marking a new chapter in the management of this important institution.

Under the impetus of the presidential orders made public on July 8, 2023, new officers have been appointed within certain public companies, with in particular the retention of Alphonse Shungu Mahungu in his position as Director General of the RVA. He will now be assisted by Mayaya Kawaasa, as Deputy Managing Director. Similarly, Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba is entering as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Bienvenu Liyota Ndjoli.

In his farewell speech, Bienvenu Liyota, outgoing PCA, expressed his gratitude to the Head of State for the trust granted during his 3 years at the head of the RVA Board of Directors. He also made a point of thanking all the staff, both from the Central Administration and from the various airport entities, as well as his colleagues on the Board of Directors and the General Manager for their effective collaboration during the stabilization of the management and the recovery of the RVA’s production tool.

The outgoing PCA highlighted the achievements made under their leadership, in particular the modernization of airport infrastructure and air navigation aid equipment in several cities of the country. Despite the difficulties encountered, he stressed that the operational capacities of the RVA are maintained thanks to the competence of the technical staff.

Bienvenu Liyota also highlighted social peace within the company and expressed his confidence in the new management team for the future development prospects of RVA, given the many strengths the company has.

For his part, Tryphon Kin-Kiey Mulumba, the new PCA, affirmed that the new team will work in the interest of the RVA in order to enable it to accomplish its mission successfully. He pledged to support the Chief Executive Officer and underlined the importance of safeguarding the interests of the company and its staff. He also expressed his desire to maintain good relations and cohesion between the members of the Board of Directors.

With this new management team, the RVA is entering a new phase in its development, with the main objective of ensuring better functioning and increased efficiency in the management of Congolese airspace.
