“The International Criminal Court investigates crimes committed in the DRC: the importance of fighting impunity”

The investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the province of Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo is attracting the attention of the media and the international community. The mission of the ICC Attorney General, Karim Khan, is to verify cases of crimes against humanity since the 2000s perpetrated by armed groups. The prosecutor discussed with several officials, including the military governor of the province, on the means of curbing this violence.

As part of this mission, Karim Khan met victims of Germain Katanga, before going to Goma, a tourist town in North Kivu. The purpose of this visit is to realize the crimes committed mainly in the eastern part of the country for more than two decades. This visit is made at the invitation of the Congolese government.

The ICC has a vital role in the fight against impunity for crimes committed around the world. It is an important institution whose mission is to protect victims of international crimes such as: war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, etc. It is able to investigate, prosecute and convict the perpetrators of these crimes, as well as play a deterrent role.

The fight against impunity is essential in order to establish a just and secure society for all. This requires international cooperation and a strong commitment from national and international authorities.
