“The DRC is committed to regional integration and the fight for human rights despite significant socio-economic challenges”

The Democratic Republic of Congo is continuing its integration into the East African community. This Wednesday, May 31, 2023, Congolese judge Kayembe Kasanda Ignace René was sworn in as a judge at the East Africa Community (EAC) court of justice. This news is a step forward for the DRC, which is investing more in the region.

The DRC had joined the sub-regional organization in 2021 and at least seven Congolese have already been elected to the EAC parliament. They sit on the deliberative and advisory body of this organization.

Meanwhile in the DRC, questions about the solution represented by the approaching presidential elections are increasing. The security crisis in the east of the country continues to preoccupy the government, which has extended the state of siege for the 49th time. The country continues to face political tensions and sexual violence. It is in this context that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is addressing the atrocities in Ituri province. Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan went to the field to conduct investigations.

The Congolese government has launched a national security investigation and Moise Katumbi’s collaborator, Salomon SK Della, is at the heart of the speculation. In support of education, the province of Kasai received a donation of 30 motorcycles intended for the provincial deputy directors of primary, secondary and technical education. However, the organization of the trip by inspectors from the National Agency for Basic Education (ANAFEP) to seven educational provinces had to be postponed, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education (EPST).

Finally, on the economic level, the African Development Bank organized its Annual Meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh, where an African foundation for pharmaceutical technology was created to strengthen the continent’s health system. Also in the health sector, Suez International is committed to supplying drinking water to the province of Kasai Central in the DRC.
