“The DRC: between the fight against impunity and security crises, the news ignites in June 2023”

The Democratic Republic of Congo continues to shake the news in June 2023. Government spokesman Patrick Muyaya recently gave an interview to France 24 in Paris, addressing various topics, such as the arrest of Salomon Kalonda, close adviser to Moïse Katumbi, as well as the march and sit-in of opponents in front of the Ceni headquarters. The violence that occurred during these events was condemned by the president and the government, who consider that violence has no place in a democracy.

In addition, we can also note the fight against impunity that is being organized in the country, with the active participation of the ICC Prosecutor in the province of Lituri. Special economic zones will also be set up to pacify this fragile region.

However, the security situation remains worrying, especially in the east of the country where persistent conflicts are taking place. The common front for the Congo is sounding the alarm, and the extraordinary summit of heads of state of the East African Community is also considering the issue.

Finally, other subjects were discussed, such as the trial of soldiers accused of violence, the development of young Congolese entrepreneurs with the Le Parrain foundation, or the future of basketball player Oscar Tshiebwe, Congolese pivot from Kentucky in the NBA.

The DRC therefore continues to make the news, between security crises, the fight against impunity and promising economic and sporting development.
