“Tension in the DRC: the government accuses the M23 of an imminent offensive on Goma”

On the front page of Congolese news, the government accuses the rebel movement M23 supported by the Rwandan army of carrying out a reinforcement of position with the aim of attacking the city of Goma (North Kivu). This announcement was made by Augustin Kibassa, the interim government spokesperson at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers in Kinshasa. He said: “The security situation remains dominated by the reinforcement of various positions by the RDF/M23 in anticipation of a general offensive with the objective confirmed according to the sources, the occupation of the city of Goma.”

In addition, during this meeting, the Deputy Minister of the Interior announced the surrender of 279 Yaka so-called Mobondo insurgents from different villages of Kinsele, Fumunketo, Bukana and Kizono. However, the security situation remains worrying with the continuation of operations aimed at tracking down the Mobondo attackers who scour the commune of Maluku and the province of Kwango.
The Deputy Minister of National Defense also indicated that the implementation of security measures both on the river and on land is beginning to bear fruit. On the Congo River, boats have not been targeted lately.
In addition, the Council of Ministers discussed the resurgence of the Kuluna phenomenon in the country’s major cities, particularly in Kinshasa.
