Games of La Francophonie: the secretary general of the OIF, Louise Mushikiwabo, absent in Kinshasa
The Francophonie Games, a major sporting and cultural event, will soon take place in Kinshasa. However, a notable absence will be that of Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF). Indeed, according to her spokesperson, she will not be present due to different policies between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
Relations between the two countries have been strained for several years, in particular because of Rwanda’s alleged support for the M23 rebellion in eastern DRC. Despite the Congolese government’s initial announcement that Louise Mushikiwabo would attend the opening ceremony as co-organizer, her spokesperson confirmed her absence. She will be represented by the administrator of the OIF, Caroline St-Hilaire.
According to the spokesperson, the absence of Louise Mushikiwabo is due to a formal invitation which was never received. This confusion prompted the general secretary to reconsider her trip. Nevertheless, she remains attached to the smooth running of the Games, which are eagerly awaited by French-speaking youth.
This situation highlights the importance of diplomatic relations in the organization of international events such as the Games of La Francophonie. Despite the political differences, it is essential to find solutions to promote peace and cooperation between the participating countries.
In conclusion, the absence of Louise Mushikiwabo at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Kinshasa raises questions about relations between the DRC and Rwanda. However, it is important to focus on the sporting and cultural spirit of the event, which aims to bring together French-speaking youth and promote the values of La Francophonie
