On the night of Wednesday May 31, a national primary school leaving examination center in the city of Gungu was set on fire. The students who were to take the tests there were taken by surprise this Thursday morning. “The center has been relocated for the Sikama primary school. The perpetrators of this fire have not yet been identified. But we have seen that it is a sign of insecurity. We have asked the police to order patrols to conduct research,” said Joachim Kusamba, president of Gungu Civil Society.
This relocation was decided by the EPST Kwilu 3 sub-division to allow students to take the tests. The territory of Gungu, created in 1933, is divided into nine districts. Across the country, for this school year 2022-2023, 2.1 million candidates are expected, including more than one million girls. The country has a total of 8,232 examination centres.
These events took place after the whole country launched this Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 the national primary school leaving exam, ENAFEP 2023. Thus, the authorities carried out the official launch of the exam primary school leaving certificate at the Athénée de Kisangani 1 and 2 primary school, in the province of Tshopo.
The exams are held throughout the DRC since today, except in seven educational provinces following the late arrival of the trunks of items at the various scheduled drop-off points. Their ENAFEP will therefore take place on June 12 and 13.
Despite this difficult situation, the Congolese authorities have made every effort to ensure that this exam is accessible free of charge to all candidates. This initiative is welcomed by parents and civil society organizations who are grateful that education is accessible to all.
Despite the challenges encountered, the authorities are doing everything they can to ensure that ENAFEP runs smoothly. The results of this national exam will be published in the coming weeks and will be decisive for the future of the students.
