A new stage for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which has just established an armed defense reserve on its territory. After being adopted by the previous National Assembly, the law establishing the Armed Defense Reserve was also adopted by the Senate during its plenary meeting on Thursday, May 4.
Parliament therefore sent a letter to President Félix Tshiseskedi, calling for the promulgation of the law establishing the armed defense reserve in the DRC, in accordance with article 136 of the Constitution. This correspondence was signed by the presidents of two chambers, the speaker of the Senate Modeste Bahati Lukwebo and that of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso Nkodia.
This new military structure is part of the army’s modernization plan aimed at protecting the Congolese population, ensuring the security of property and installations and cooperating with other national security services. The objective is to strengthen the means of defense and to better prepare the Congolese armed forces to face the future challenges that the country could experience.
You should know that the Democratic Republic of the Congo faces many political, economic and social challenges. The country is experiencing an electoral crisis that has generated many political tensions that persist to this day. However, the DRC government has taken the decision to modernize the army to better face these multiple persistent challenges.
In this same dynamic, President Félix Tshiseskedi was recently in China to renegotiate the economic contract between the two countries. The DRC now wants a fairer distribution of profits. These different measures are a response to the various challenges facing the country.
