The Minister of State, Minister of Regional Integration, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisa launched, on May 26 in Kinshasa, the workshop on the security situation in the province of Ituri. The purpose of this event was to offer delegates from all the Iturian communities living in Kinshasa the opportunity to speak frankly about the deep, distant and present causes of the insecurity that weaken their province.
Indeed, the president of the “iturian” community of Kinshasa, Felix Kabuizi, highlighted four important current events: the state of siege, the problem of the election of a new governor in Ituri, the need intra-community and inter-community dialogue with an opening to armed groups, and finally the restoration of state authority in the province.
Mbusa Nyamwisi solemnly urged the “iturian” population to commit to peace after taking stock of the resurgence of armed groups that are committing serious abuses against the civilian population.
As Minister of Regional Integration, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisa believes it is his duty to work hard to bring about the pacification of the eastern part of the DRC. The Minister of State also promised to make a plea to his hierarchy to organize the dialogue for peace in Ituri.
Mbusa is of the opinion that the cessation of hostilities will allow the improvement of the security situation, the free movement of people and their goods on different roads, and the emergence of integration projects. Ituri is a province rich in mining and oil resources as well as in forest ecosystem, so it has a promising future if peace is established there.
Following this workshop on the security situation in Ituri, many reflections can be made about the future of the province. Indeed, the search for a lasting peace is crucial for the development of the region. It is therefore important to continue working on lasting solutions to overcome the current conflicts.
