The governors of the five eastern provinces of the DRC gathered in Goma for a “regional conversation” organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and MONUSCO. For three days, the governors of North Kivu, South Kivu, Maniema, Ituri and Tanganyika, accompanied by members of their provincial governments, reflected on common strategies to meet the challenges of development, security and environment in their respective provinces.
This initiative aims to promote cooperation between the eastern provinces of the DRC, which face similar challenges such as security crises, natural disasters and climate change. By putting in place coordinated responses, the governors hope to strengthen the authority of the state in certain areas and improve the living conditions of the populations of the East.
The final objective of this “regional conversation” is to produce a common plea for interprovincial cooperation in the sectors of development, prevention of the security crisis and responses to environmental challenges. By working together, the governors hope to intensify development efforts in the region and address the obstacles currently impeding its progress.
This meeting is an important step in the search for lasting solutions for eastern DRC and demonstrates the governors’ commitment to working together for a better future. Thanks to this regional cooperation, it is possible to envisage more promising development prospects for the eastern provinces. This concerted approach will also contribute to strengthening stability and security in the region, by enabling the authorities to deal more effectively with security and socio-political challenges.
