“Demonstration of the Congolese opposition in Kinshasa for the truth of the ballot boxes”

Opponents Augustin Matata Ponyo, Delly Sesanga, Martin Fayulu and Moïse Katumbi were again in the streets of Kinshasa this Thursday, May 25 for a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). The objective of this demonstration was to ensure that the truth of the ballot box prevails during the elections scheduled for next December.

Despite the refusal of the Congolese National Police to let the demonstrators gain access to the CENI headquarters at the Boulevard du 30 juin, the opponents and their activists decided to hold their sit-in. Martin Fayulu, challenger to Félix Tshisekedi during the last presidential election, said that the Congolese opposition will not give any credit to the current electoral file.

The president of the political party ECiDé told the press: “We are here to tell the CENI, mainly to Mr. Kadima and his entire team, that we will not accept a new electoral fraud. We do not accept his electoral file, his shopped and fabricated file to pass Felix Tshisekedi. »

If the Congolese opposition continues to resist, it remains to be seen what the provincial authorities in Kinshasa will decide on the next demonstrations. Political tension in the DRC remains high and maintaining peace is more than ever a priority.
