“Abandoned after the Mbanza-Ngungu accident: EGMF and local political authorities singled out”

The traffic accident that occurred on May 20, 2023 in Mbanza-Ngungu continues to cause ink to flow. According to the testimonies collected, the accident caused 10 victims and serious injuries. The truck was carrying a 40-foot container, and, coming from Matadi for Kinshasa, it experienced a sudden breakdown of the braking system towards the bend which leads to the entrance to the Nkamba road. Despite the cries of the driver who was asking people on the road to save themselves, the truck did not stop and picked up motorcycles, cars and people in its path.

The victims were interned in various health centers and hospitals, but for nearly a week, no assistance has been provided by EGMF, the company that owns the truck. The local political authorities who were supposed to take care of the victims did nothing either. Worry wins over the accident victims who feel completely abandoned.

This indifference scandalizes public opinion, which never ceases to wonder whether awareness will come only after the death of people. It is important that the competent authorities go to the scene of the accident to ascertain the facts and provide assistance to these victims who need appropriate medical follow-up.
