Transport news in the DRC: The urgency of buoy work and other development projects
The transport sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) faces several challenges that require urgent government attention. During the hundred and fifth meeting of the Council of Ministers, President Félix Tshisekedi highlighted the importance of finalizing priority files to revive river transport and improve the country’s transport infrastructure.
Among the urgent projects, we note the work of two markers of tributaries of the Régie des Voies Fluviales (RVF) in Kindu and Kongolo. This work is essential to ensure the safety and proper functioning of river transport in the DRC, which remains under-exploited despite the country’s vast natural hydrographic network.
The President of the Republic also highlighted other projects requiring funding from the public treasury. These include the Kalemie and Kinshasa dredge, as well as the construction of a spoil barge for Kinshasa. This equipment is essential for maintaining waterways and ensuring efficient river transport.
In parallel, projects in the field of aeronautics are also underway. The rehabilitation of the Bangoka air terminal in Kisangani is a priority project, aimed at improving the city’s airport infrastructure. In addition, the airstrip at Kolwezi airport also requires renovation, and the provincial government is waiting for financial support from the central government to carry out this project.
Faced with these challenges, the President of the Republic urged the Minister of Transport, Ways of Communication and Accessibility, in collaboration with the Minister of Finance, to act quickly and effectively to concretize these various files. It is crucial to mobilize the necessary resources in order to modernize the transport infrastructure in the DRC and thus promote the economic and social development of the country.
In conclusion, the urgency of buoy work and other development projects in the transport sector in the DRC testifies to the strategic importance of this sector for the country. The government must act proactively to ensure the safety and efficiency of river transport, as well as to improve aeronautical infrastructure. This will stimulate the economy and facilitate trade, thus contributing to the overall development of the DRC
