The Electoral Commission of the Congolese Federation of Football Association (FECOFA) was recently set up during an extraordinary and elective general assembly held in Kinshasa. Under the direction of Donat Liyoke, this commission is in charge of organizing the next elections to form a new committee at FECOFA.
During this meeting, Donat Liyoke was elected chairman of the commission with 37 votes out of 60 voters, while Benjamin Makutu was elected vice-chairman with 28 votes. The other elected members are Michie Emeka Makutu, Elubert Huarakiero and Espérance Mayuma, who were elected by acclamation.
This establishment of the electoral commission marks an important step in the process of renewing the FECOFA committee. Indeed, since last April, a standardization committee, set up by FIFA, has been responsible for supervising these elections in order to ensure a democratic transition within the Congolese football federation.
This announcement also comes in a context of dissatisfaction for fans of the DCMP club following the withdrawal of its license by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Indeed, the team was sanctioned for infringements related to the eligibility of certain players during continental competitions.
It is therefore essential that the electoral commission works in a transparent and diligent manner to allow a fair and equitable election of the members of the new FECOFA committee. The future of Congolese football and its ability to develop and meet international standards depends on it.
This electoral process is also an opportunity to restore the confidence of supporters and football players in the DRC, by showing that the governance of the federation is in good hands and that it is guided by the principles of transparency, integrity and skill.
In conclusion, the establishment of the FECOFA electoral commission is a significant step forward in the process of renewing the Congolese football federation committee. It is now essential that this commission carry out its role in the organization of the elections in order to guarantee a new legitimate and competent committee to lead Congolese football towards new successes
