The electoral campaign in the electoral district of Kenge-Territoire promises to be lively, with the presence of Emile Yimbu, an influential journalist from Kenge, who has decided to go into politics. In an election where the population wants to rejuvenate the political class in Kwango, the incumbents, such as Matadiwamba Kamba Mutu and Peti-Peti Jean-Marie, face fierce competition from Emile Yimbu.
Matadiwamba, who has held several ministerial posts and been a national deputy for decades, is criticized for his lack of concrete action in favor of the population. He was also involved in succession disputes within the Pelende-north chiefdom. Moreover, he is accused of having done nothing for the creation of a bar of lawyers in his province, despite his past as national chairman.
As for Peti-Peti Jean-Marie, current provincial governor, he is strongly criticized by his political base for his inefficiency at the head of Kwango province. Despite the investment funds allocated by the central government, it did nothing to develop the province. On the other hand, he is accused of managing the province like his own pocket, diverting financial resources intended for development. Its governance is also criticized for stoking tribalism.
Faced with these contested candidates, the candidacy of Emile Yimbu appears to be a promising alternative. A committed journalist, he made a name for himself by denouncing poor governance in Kwango. In particular, he initiated an investigation into violence in the Bukangalonzo sector, which led to him being imprisoned. But his release was supported by the population, who gave him the nickname “Mandela” in recognition of his fight.
Some believe that the candidacy of Emile Yimbu was orchestrated with the aim of favoring the tenors of the AACRD political group, of which the candidate Mboso N’kodia Pwanga, current president of the National Assembly, is a member. However, Emile Yimbu clarifies his position by stating that he is a candidate in his own right, ready to represent and defend the aspirations of the population.
It remains to be seen whether Emile Yimbu will be able to forgive his political competitors and stand out in this election campaign. One thing is certain, his presence has sparked new enthusiasm and offers an interesting alternative to traditional candidates
