Investigation into the murder of Chérubin Okende: Congolese women demand justice and identity of those responsible

Investigation into the murder of Chérubin Okende: claim for the identification of those responsible and the sponsors

The association Women Loved Justice for the Liberation of Salomon Kalonda Idi Della (FJUSKD) urged, during a demonstration in Kinshasa, the setting up of an independent investigation into the murder of Chérubin Okende. These women, grouped within this association, demand that those responsible and the sponsors of this heinous act be identified and brought to justice.

Annie Faray, coordinator of the FJUSKD, expressed the anger and indignation of these women during the demonstration in front of MONUSCO headquarters: “We have come to demand an independent investigation for Cherubin Okende so that we can know the sponsors, the actors, all those who participated from afar or closely in his assassination. This is the cry of the mothers who are grouped within this association.”

In a memorandum submitted to the UN mission, the association denounced the violations of fundamental rights and freedom of expression which are increasing in the country. She cited in particular the arrests of Salomon Idi Kalonda and Mike Mukebayi, both executives of the party Together for the Republic of Moïse Katumbi. These women demand that concrete measures be taken to ensure the safety of the Congolese population.

Faced with the lack of action at the national level, the FJUSKD does not rule out seizing the International Criminal Court (ICC) so that justice is done and those responsible for these crimes are tried. “We reserve the right to take legal action at the level of the ICC against the UN mission, against all these embassies which are here with us for non-assistance to a people in danger”, underlined Annie Faray.

This demand for the establishment of an independent investigation into the murder of Chérubin Okende highlights the urgency of guaranteeing justice and security for all Congolese citizens. It calls for action by the competent authorities to identify those responsible for this act of violence and put an end to the impunity that reigns in the country.

The fight for justice and the release of Salomon Kalonda Idi Della continues, carried by the committed women of the FJUSKD. Their determination to shed light on the crimes committed and to obtain accounts from the authorities is an inspiring example of the strength and resilience of Congolese women in their quest for a better Congo.
