“Teachers of the DRC: for fair remuneration and quality education”

Teachers in the Democratic Republic of Congo are demanding the suspension of the reduction of 10,000 FC arbitrarily applied to their salaries, as well as the restitution of the loss of earnings since last April. It was during a general meeting of the Synergy of Teachers’ Unions of the DRC, which was held on Saturday July 22 in Kinshasa, that this demand was formulated.

During this meeting, the participants also asked the government to put in place a new salary scale to ensure a peaceful return to school. According to them, this new scale would allow teachers to meet the current cost of living. They also advocate the payment of a uniform salary and bonus for all primary school teachers.

The spokesman for the Synergy of DRC teachers’ unions, Jean-Bosco Puna, reminded the Congolese State of its commitment to guarantee a 2023-2024 school year in good conditions. He insists on the need to respect the commitments made to ensure quality education for students.

This request from teachers highlights the difficulties they face in the DRC. Teachers play an essential role in the development of the country, by training the younger generations and by contributing to the construction of a promising future. It is therefore essential to take into account their demands and find solutions to improve their working conditions and their remuneration.

The situation of teachers in the DRC also reflects a broader issue with which many countries are confronted: the promotion of the teaching profession. In many countries, teachers are often underpaid and their working conditions are not always optimal. It is therefore crucial to recognize the importance of their role and to grant them the support and resources necessary to carry out their profession in good conditions.

In conclusion, the demand of teachers in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the suspension of the reduction of their salaries and the introduction of a new salary scale highlights the challenges they face. It is necessary to support them and find solutions to guarantee quality education in the DRC. Teachers play a crucial role in the development of the country and their recognition and valuation are essential to ensure a better future
