News in the DRC: Persistent insecurity threatens the country’s stability
For several years, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has faced numerous security challenges that threaten the stability of the country. From insecurity in the east to the phenomena of kidnapping and the assassination of political figures, the situation has become worrying.
The Secular Coordination Committee (CLC) recently sounded the alarm on the security crisis in the east of the country, particularly with the activism of the M23 rebels supported by Rwanda in the province of North Kivu. This situation is gradually spreading throughout the territory, creating a climate of fear and instability, as evidenced by the phenomenon of kidnapping which recently shook the capital Kinshasa.
The murder of Chérubin Okende, national deputy and spokesperson for Ensemble pour la République, party of the opponent Moïse Katumbi, was a shock for the Congolese population. The CLC considers this assassination as a consequence of the deleterious political climate that reigns in the country. He therefore calls for an end to these excessive tensions and to promote a climate of calm.
The CLC also urges the national community to remember the first verses of the Congolese national anthem, which call for unity and a common effort for independence. Faced with this critical situation, it is essential to bring the nation together and respond urgently to the problems that arise.
Dialogue is also put forward by the CLC as the only possible way out of this crisis. He calls on the President of the Republic and the main political figures of the country to sit around a table to find adequate solutions to the challenges facing the DRC.
It is crucial to challenge internal divisions, because a divided nation cannot claim victory against its enemies, whether external or internal.
