Growth in air traffic in Senegal in 2023
According to a recent report by Senegal’s National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM), air traffic in the country continues to grow significantly. During the first quarter of 2023, the numbers doubled compared to the same period the previous year.
ANACIM commented on this phenomenon, stating: “The first quarter of 2023 confirms a continuous growth in traffic observed for around twenty months, with increases that bring us closer to the normal volume of traffic before the crisis”. These figures bear witness to the vigorous recovery of the air transport sector in Senegal.
The report also indicates an 8% increase in air freight compared to 2019, with a total of 10,662 tons transported during the current year. This increase in cargo volume demonstrates the vitality of air trade and the demand for freight transport.
In terms of traffic contribution, the Senegalese airline Air Senegal occupies a prominent place, handling 22% of total traffic. It is closely followed by Air France and Royal Air Maroc. These airlines play a vital role in connecting the country with the rest of the world.
When it comes to the best-served destinations from Dakar, figures show that Paris and Casablanca top the list, accounting for 16% and 10% of passenger flow respectively. These two cities are important international hubs and their connectivity with Dakar helps boost air traffic.
This continued growth in air traffic in Senegal is positive news for the country. It reflects an economic recovery and the confidence of travelers and businesses in the aviation sector. It also highlights the strategic importance of air connectivity for the development of tourism, trade and international cooperation.
In conclusion, air traffic in Senegal is experiencing sustained growth in 2023, with volumes gradually approaching pre-crisis levels. This positive trend is driven by airlines such as Air Senegal, Air France and Royal Air Maroc, as well as connectivity with key cities such as Paris and Casablanca
