UDPS refuses to participate in consultations and mobilizes its troops for the upcoming elections in Kasai Oriental

The Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) of the Mbuji-Mayi federation refuses to participate in the consultations initiated by the governor of Kasai Oriental province, calling them “non-event”. In a statement to the local press, Federal President Jean-Paul Bwebwe Kapo said his federation was not involved in this process and would not respond to the invitation.

The federal president of the UDPS questioned the relevance of these consultations, wondering what the real motivations were. He stressed that the governor should rather focus on the implementation of his social project and meet the expectations of the population, rather than organizing late consultations. He also expressed his skepticism about the added value of this move and what the governor could still add to his program.

On the other hand, the UDPS rural federation of Kasaï Oriental was received by the provincial authority to discuss the preparation of the general elections of December 2023. Governor Patrick Mathias Kabeya asked the UDPS to raise awareness among the population and put in place strategies to elect the candidates of the ruling party.

Faced with messages of demobilization and weakening of the party, the executives of the UDPS called on the population to remain vigilant and not to give in to attempts at disorientation. They asked the population to continue to trust the UDPS and not to be distracted by speeches aimed at discrediting the party.

The consultations were launched after the dismissal of the president of the Kasai Oriental Provincial Assembly, which plunged the province into a political crisis. This decision was welcomed by the UDPS, which called on the provincial deputies to focus on the management of the governorate. However, the situation remains unstable and the provincial deputies are demanding the departure of the executive.

In this crucial period of preparation for the elections, it is essential that the UDPS and its supporters remain united and mobilized to ensure strong support for the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi and the party candidates. They must also remain vigilant against attempts at destabilization and disorientation.

In conclusion, the UDPS of the Mbuji-Mayi federation refuses to participate in the consultations of the governor of the province of Kasaï Oriental, considering them as a non-event. However, the UDPS rural federation of Kasai Oriental met with the governor to discuss preparations for the elections. It is essential that the UDPS and its supporters remain mobilized and vigilant, in order to face the political challenges and support the Head of State and the party candidates in this crucial period
