Title: The stakes of a political dialogue in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Introduction :
The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) raises serious concerns. Growing insecurity, attacks on opponents and Catholic Prelates, as well as political tensions have prompted the African Commission for the Supervision of Elections (CASE) to call for political dialogue to stabilize the democratic process. In this article, we will examine the stakes of such a dialogue and its importance for the political future of the country.
1. Insecurity and the threat against opponents
CASE underlines the growing insecurity in the DRC, which seems to be orchestrated to bully the people and the opponents. Publicly identified individuals do not hesitate to threaten opponents and celebrate the suffering of the population. The relentlessness against Moïse Katumbi, with the assassination of his spokesman and the imprisonment of his special adviser, raises concerns about a plan to isolate the presidential candidate from the electoral process.
2. Attacks on Catholic Prelates
La Case also denounces attacks against Catholic prelates, including Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo Besungu, Monsignor Fulgence Muteba Mugalu, Monsignor Donation Nshole and Abbot Blaise Kanda. These acts appear to be aimed at preventing the Church from playing its role in political mediation. Despite the general boycott of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) by the Congolese people and political parties, the power in place remains indifferent to these facts.
3. The call for political dialogue
Faced with this worrying situation, CASE once again calls on President Félix Tshisekedi to convene meetings to stabilize the democratic process. This political dialogue should make it possible to assess the political and security situation, examine electoral governance, strengthen national reconciliation and prepare for a peaceful transition towards inclusive and credible elections.
Conclusion :
Political dialogue in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is of crucial importance to stabilize the country and guarantee a fair and transparent democratic process. It is essential that political and social actors come together to constructively discuss the problems that afflict the country and find lasting solutions. President Tshisekedi must heed CASE’s call and take concrete steps to engage in this essential political dialogue. Only a collective commitment can promote political stability in the DRC and pave the way for a better future for all Congolese citizens
