News: Launch of popular consultations in the province of Kasai Oriental
The province of Kasai Oriental, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is currently the scene of a political crisis. In order to remedy this situation and meet the expectations of the population, the provincial executive has decided to launch popular consultations. The objective of these consultations is to collect the wishes and observations of citizens on the progress of the province.
The consultations began with a meeting between the governor of the province and the heads of religious denominations. The latter made several recommendations, particularly in terms of a policy of proximity to the population and regular communication through the media. They underline the importance of a permanent dialogue between the provincial executive and the different strata of the population.
Heads of higher and university establishments also had the opportunity to meet with the provincial authority. During this meeting, emphasis was placed on the development of the diamond capital, and on ways to promote higher education in the region.
Many civil society actors were also invited to participate in these consultations. Presidents of student associations, youth representatives and local media directors have all expressed their concerns and expectations of the provincial executive.
These consultations take place following the dismissal of the President of the Provincial Assembly of Kasai Oriental, which has exacerbated the political crisis in the region. The Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) welcomes this initiative and calls on the provincial deputies to focus on the management of the executive.
It is important to note that these consultations are taking place in a context marked by tensions and demands on the part of provincial deputies who are demanding the departure of the executive. The province of Kasai Oriental is facing political instability that requires effective management and adequate solutions.
The popular consultations are therefore a crucial step in promoting dialogue and finding solutions to the problems facing the province of Kasai Oriental. By allowing the various actors in society to express their expectations and actively participate in decision-making, these consultations could contribute to easing tensions and finding lasting solutions for the region. It is therefore essential to support this participatory approach and to encourage all the citizens and actors concerned to take part in it
