“Lugushwa in mourning: a devastating fire ravages the mining community, causing casualties and considerable property damage”

Lugushwa, an entity located in the territory of Mwanga, South Kivu, was the scene of a tragic fire on Tuesday July 18, 2023. The exact circumstances of this incident are not yet clarified, however, there are at least 110 destroyed houses and unfortunately three people lost their lives.

It was Mubirimbo Birimu, president of civil society in Lugushwa, who reported this information to the Agence Congolaise de Presse. The magnitude of the fire caused the destruction of many homes, causing considerable material damage in the mining community of Lugushwa, located more than 200 km from Bukavu.

Unfortunately, this incident is not isolated in the region. In recent weeks, several fires of unknown origins have ravaged a significant part of Bukavu, also causing significant human and material damage.

This new fire in Lugushwa once again raises the question of the safety and protection of the inhabitants in this region already affected by various problems.
