“The challenge of returning displaced persons to the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom in the Democratic Republic of Congo: the urgency of a transport solution”

Transport difficulties for displaced civilians in the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to pose many challenges. Since 2020, many inhabitants have fled these villages following the violence of war, leaving behind their shelters and their lands. However, the return to their places of origin proves to be a real challenge due to transport problems.

According to the head of the chiefdom, Étienne Babanilau, many displaced people are currently in Komanda, in the Walendu-Bindi chiefdom, as well as in Bunia. These people ardently wish to return home, but face great difficulties in arranging their transport to the chiefdom of Tchabi. The local authorities are therefore pleading with the provincial government to take the necessary measures to facilitate the return of these displaced civilians.

Fortunately, the security situation in several villages has improved, which encourages the displaced to want to return to their region of origin. After two years of absence, many inhabitants are already beginning to return to the chiefdom of Banyali-Tchabi. These returns testify to a desire to recover a normal life despite the trauma suffered.

However, it is essential that the government authorities take concrete measures to facilitate the return of the displaced. Transport is a major obstacle, but there are also other challenges to overcome, such as the reconstruction of infrastructure, access to drinking water and health services, as well as security. It is essential to accompany the displaced throughout their return in order to guarantee their successful reintegration into their community.

The situation of displaced civilians in the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom is a poignant example of the devastating consequences of armed conflict on civilian populations. The urgency of meeting their basic needs and offering them adequate support cannot be overlooked. Raising awareness and mobilizing resources are key to rebuilding shattered lives and allowing the displaced to regain their dignity and stability.

In conclusion, it is imperative that the provincial government take the necessary measures to facilitate the return of displaced civilians to the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom. Transport, reconstruction of infrastructure and access to basic services are all challenges to be met to guarantee the successful reintegration of these people into their communities. The solidarity and support of the local population and humanitarian organizations are also essential to help the displaced to rebuild their lives and aspire to a better future
